SGS Indonesia, as part of the SGS Group, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, successfully held the 12th Quality Network Conference (QNC) 2014, on 9 September 2014 at the JCC Plenary Hall, Assembly 1-3, Jakarta, Indonesia. This year’s conference was attended by more than 1,300 participants, as it offered a golden opportunity to meet face-to-face with fellow business leaders and innovators and distinguished speakers. Now in its 12th year, the Quality Network Conference is a platform for organisations in Indonesia to expand their knowledge on international standards and certifications, and learn new concepts and best practices implemented by organisations to achieve business success and continuity effectively.

In conjunction with the conference, SGS also launched the SGS Academy in Indonesia. SGS Academy Indonesia is one of 35 SGS worldwide centers of excellence, offering more than 70 training courses, leading to formal qualifications in Indonesia. It focuses on contributing to continuous improvement strategies by providing an integrated approach to all aspects of quality, health and safety, environmental, and sustainability management systems. SGS Academy’s training empowers the individual, while also recognising and formalising their skills and knowledge through structured education. Mr. Daniel Derzic, the Deputy Head of Mission Swiss Embassy, was present to congratulate SGS Indonesia for the launching of SGS Academy.

In this event, we will expand our knowledge, discover new concepts, and learn the best practice implemented by other organisations to support your success and business continuity,” said Mr. Guy Escarfail, Managing Director, SGS Indonesia during the opening.

Some informative sessions with several prominent speakers from SGS, the public and private sectors were presented at the event. These included key updates and technical briefs on the transition of the new version of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, and solutions designed by SGS Group to support the performance of the organisation to the next level. Dirjen Binlattas, Ir. Khairul Anwar, MM, from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (MOMT), explained about the government’s development strategy and role in the implementation of learning and development programs such as the development of a quality assurance system training institute, to enhance the quality and quantity of trainers, develop training programs, and develop regulations to bring locally qualified human resource on par with global. Prof. Ir. Sutanto Soehodo, M. Eng, government representative of DKI Jakarta, further spoke about the importance of quality assurance and quality control in public services in DKI Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia and the main information gate to and from Indonesia.

Mr. Sofjan Wanandi, Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO), shared with attendees the issue of Indonesian competitiveness. Each of them shared the activities and the implementation of learning and development in their organisations respectively.

Through ‘Learning and Development’, SGS Indonesia invites to spread innovation through a continuous learning process to enable the organisation, and the people within to develop further. Ideas behind innovation must be implemented accordingly and this may not be materialised if the organisation does not know what to do with innovation. Learning, therefore, is a crucial part of innovation that will lead to development of the organisation.
